Coast Freshe Cold Plunge Maintenance
Maintaining Water Chemistry
Initial set-up
Fill up the Coast Freshe cold plunge with distilled or tap water. If the water contains mineral levels such that calcium deposits (scale) frequently build up on and around your faucets, it is recommended to use a prefilter.
On initial fill up, no chemicals are required since the water is fresh out of the tap. Chemical treatment of the water will begin after the first use or after two days (whichever comes first).
Note: Before using the Coast Freshe Cold Plunge, it is highly recommended to shower with hot water without the use of any soaps and rinse bathing suits with hot water as well. This is to ensure the removal of any creams, lotions, soaps, oils, make-up, detergents, deodorant, etc. so that these residues do not leach into the Cold Plunge water. Following this step before using your Cold Plunge will ensure a more enjoyable experience, it will increase your ease of water maintenance significantly, and keep your water fresher for longer.
Steps for adding balancing chemicals:
To test the water, quickly dip a test strip into the water and pull it out to observe the colour change on the strip, the colour change takes 5-10 seconds with cold water.
Start by assuring the alkalinity is approximately 100-120 ppm. To increase the alkalinity, add Alkalinity Booster in ½ cap increments and stir the water to make sure it dissolves.
Once the water alkalinity is around 100-120 ppm, check the pH and make sure it’s somewhere in the range of 7.4 – 7.8. To increase the pH, add pH UP in ¼ cap increments and to decrease the pH, add pH DOWN in ¼ cap increments. It’s important to add pH chemicals in small increments to assure you achieve the 7.4 - 7.8 range.
Steps for sanitizing the water:
Once the water is balanced (alkalinity 100 – 120 ppm, pH 7.4 – 7.8), then it’s ready for sanitizing. Add ¼ cap (approximately 1 tbsp) of Harmonize after using the Cold Plunge, stir the water to assure the sanitizer dissolves and leave the cover open for 15 minutes to allow the chlorine to off-gas.
Maintain the Coast Freshe Cold Plunge sanitizer (chlorine) level around 0.5 – 1 ppm when using. This will minimize skin irritation and allow for a better experience.

Do I drain my chiller unit on the Coast Freshe Cold Plunge?
We'll walk you through the process step by step, ensuring you can drain your chiller like a seasoned pro. But before we dive in, remember to power down your entire Coast Freshe Cold Plunge system for safety. Now, let's get started!
Power Down Your Entire Coast Freshe System:
Ensure your entire plunge system, including the chiller, is safely powered down and disconnected from any power source. Safety first!
Disconnect the ""In"" and ""Out"" Chiller Connections:
Locate the ""In"" and ""Out"" connections on your chiller.
Carefully disconnect these connections from the chiller. This will ensure water doesn't spray everywhere during the drainage process.
Caution: Don't Rest the Ports on the Ground:
Here's the crucial part: Be extra cautious not to rest the ""In"" and ""Out"" ports directly on the ground. The ports are delicate and could break if they're subjected to too much pressure.
Let the Water Drain:
As your chiller is upside down, let gravity do its work. The water will naturally flow out from the ""In"" and ""Out"" ports.
Wait Until Fully Drained:
Be patient. Ensure that all the water has fully drained from the chiller before moving on.
Allow the Chiller to Rest Before Turning it Back On:
Before you excitedly reconnect your chiller to the plunge system and power it back on, exercise a little patience.
It's essential to let the chiller rest for a minimum of 4 hours. This allows the coolant to settle and ensures optimal performance.
Rushing this step can lead to a chiller that fails to cool efficiently.
With these steps, you can confidently drain your chiller without any worries. Remember to handle those ""In"" and ""Out"" connections and ports with care, and enjoy the safe and hassle-free process. Now, you're ready to chill out or perform maintenance without a hitch.
Hot/Cold Setup Breakdown
"Standard models only -> Check green power switch on the right side of chiller
Make sure that the chiller is plugged into the ""cooling"" outlet inside the electrical box.
If the chiller is plugged into the power strip and not ""cooling"" the heater and chiller will fight each other and the water will not cool, or heat, the way it is intended.
Your chiller will not power on until you adjust the temperature on your Inkbird. Your ""SV"" (bottom number) must be at least 4 degrees lower than your ""PV"" (top number) for the chiller to power on.
When your chiller reaches the desired temperature your chiller will be ""powered down."" This is the normal function of the Inkbird, so that your chiller does not run 24/7 and waste energy. It will not power the chiller back on until the ""PV"" reached 4 degrees higher than your ""SV."""
Defrosting A Frozen Chiller
"If you are experiencing decreased, or no flow, this could be caused by water in the chiller freezing.
If the chiller is still running, or it is below freezing outside while there is poor/no flow, the water in the reservoir can freeze.
If you believe you have a frozen chiller please do the following...
Completely drain your Coast Freshe Cold Plunge. CLICK HERE for directions.
Bring your water filter canister and chiller inside.
After 4 hours check to see if your chiller has defrosted.
Turn the chiller upside down to empty the water that is in there.
Pour water into the ""In"" hole. Cover the ""in"" hole with your hand and turn the chiller upside down. If water comes out of the ""out"" hole your the chiller has defrosted.
OR you can have a little fun by pouring water into the ""in"" hole and blowing into the ""in"" connection. If water comes shooting out of the ""out"" hole, then your chiller has defrosted. BEWARE - water can come out like a like a geyser using this method.
It can sometimes take 24-48 hours to fully defrost a chiller.
Fill up your Coast Freshe Cold Plunge to see if this solved your flow issue.
If this did not solve your issue, please CLICK HERE to get in touch with one of our Coast Freshe Cold Plunge Specialists."
